Hi Lloyd,
I have type 1a, am on wk 17 of the 48 wk hitch w/interferon and
ribavirin. I've had some bad side effects, such as hemolytic anemia
(for which I am taking Epogen), itchy rash all over the body, digestive
problems, sinusitis, swollen lymph glands around my neck, alopecia,
and depression. Except for a cortisone injection for the rash I've
refused to add any more meds for the side effects of the treatment.
I was out on disability for 4 mos--will return to work 5/9. I've
decided to start taking supplements to assist my immune system.
Do you know of hcv folks doing the interferon and using alternative
supplements? Are there any interactions with the interferon?
I just purchased the herbal
aloe force juice w/herbs, started taking 4 oz today. I also
take vit c about 1000 mg /day. Any suggestions as far as supplements
when a person is on interferon treatment?
Thanks,
Mary.
Hi Mary:
I suggest that you stop taking interferon. Read
this study from Schering:
This study says that Peg Intron works on about 7% of geno type 1a,
1b. By work, they mean a sustained reemission for 6 months after
use.
Putting your body thru this will, not maybe, but WILL lead to serious
complications in the future.
Every single person I have meet that had primary liver cancer who
has hep c also used interferon!
That is just the tip of the iceberg.
Many will say that the studies I site are old. Peg Intron is the
same, Hep c is the same.
I do have people on my
program who use interferon and have had in the past. It does
lessen the severity of some of the side effects, it does help maintain
a sustained remission. There are no drug interactions.
You need to take SAMe
to stop the itch, stop the cortisone.
Your lymph nodes are swollen because the interferon is damaging
your bone marrow and this will damage your immune system for life.
The instructions that come with interferon specifically state
that when the side effects that you mention are present treatment
should be stopped! Why? Because you are being damaged!
There is no reason for Humans to be subjected to this type of treatment
for the hep c virus. This is Drug Cartel Greed!
Just Say No to Interferon!
Lloyd
